The Hotel Hershey was going through a $67 million “Grand Expansion” and needed signs that would reflect the class and artistic values of such an operation. They chose D.E. Gemmill Inc. to make and install the handcrafted, custom signs for the project.
Gemmill selected the wood, routed, primed, and painted the signs and posts. They also engraved the names, letters, and numbers with a computerized routing table, and installed the signed for the Hotel main entrance. Other signs included those for ten luxury guest cottages, a new 130-seat restaurant, and additional signs for the recreation campus.
Special posts were all hand routed, while the signs were routed using a C.R. Onsrud router. All of the automatic routing was performed as a team effort with Harbor Sales Company. Tolerances for the signs were kept within 0.125-inch.
According to David Gemmill, president of the company, the Hotel Hershey project provided a unique opportunity to showcase the company’s sign and graphic
capabilities. “We have the expertise and experience to provide signage of all types and sizes.” This particular project ran approximately six week. It entailed over 90 signs in all.
The entire project was designed using Flexi Sign and Adobe illustrator programs. Once the manufacturing was completed the signs were all hand painted using One Shot paint. A wood filler was used to fill the routing in order to accomplish the two-color process.
D.E. Gemmill has provided quality sign and graphic needs that include standard and custom signs, banners, yard signs, static cling signs, sign posts, installation and hardware, signage maintenance and repair, digital graphics, design assistance, and more.
